Many artists I know are wary of being labelled, but I have always felt comfortable about calling myself a Constructivist.

More than half a century ago, I walked through the doors of Hornsey College of Art. There, I found a serious commitment to the creative use of new technology and modernism, which surprised and pleased me. I still believe all these years later, in the principles of Constructivism: in an abstract art reflecting the modern industrial and urban world, eschewing commodified art, embracing industrial materials, and committed to a progressive democratic communitarian culture.

An Illustrated Autobiography

Line Red to Space / The Magnitude is Green is an illustrated autobiography of Constructivist artist, sculptor and showrunner Terry w Scales. Launched on March 24th 2024, to coincide with the opening of Terry’s latest exhibition in North Wales.

This book revives the memory of a widely forgotten-about time and the validity of the work done during those early years by Terry and his contemporaries. It also tells the story of how he survived, continuing with his socially committed work and never ceasing to seek out new creative languages.

Editor David Townsend Jones, Adastra Publishing.
